never
wore a suit. Out of respect for him, the family put him
to rest in his favorite shirt, open at the neck, with the
sleeves rolled up. That was how he was known and how the
family thought he should be remembered. Nearly six months
after his death, the Cocciemiglios and the entire D/C Export
family faced their first Christmas without Dom Sr. It was
a time of mixed emotions; everyone half expected him to
come walking through the front door asking how everyone
was. Christmas is usually a joyous holiday. Dom Sr. and
Carol always rented a banquet hall and hosted large, festive
parties for the company. In remembrance of Dom Sr., the
employees did not want to have a big party. It seemed wrong
without him, so soon after his death. Instead of a big dinner
party, the people of D/C had a small luncheon at the office
to share a quiet, bittersweet Christmas. With his death,
Dominick Cocciemiglio Sr. leaves behind two legacies that
are forever intertwined: his family (which includes blood
relatives and the employees he always thought of as family)
and his business. His family goes on through his children
and grandchildren, and will continue for generations to
come. His business continues with his wife, children and
employees. The values with which Dom Sr. and Carol founded
D/C Export are seen in every person, and every service performed
for customers. As Dom Sr. himself once said, “We do everything
we can to make our customers happy.” And that’s exactly
what the D/C Export family intends to keep doing. |
