The Wheels are in Motion

D/C Export has begun the intricate process of ISO certification. The International Organization for Standardization is a worldwide federation providing a core of quality-system standards that is applicable to a broad range of industries.

--For the sake of efficiency, the company has opted to register for ISO-14000 concurrently. This much newer ISO standard involves all aspects of the environment, from scrap to emissions.



--"D/C is preparing for ISO-9001," explains John Cocciemiglio. "This assures our conformance to specified requirements throughout all facets of our products and services." ISO requirements are directed toward consistency in procedures and documentation. This, in turn, assures consistently high-quality end products. The registration process will improve efficiency and documentation within D/C, and customers can expect the same high-quality products and services. "While we already have extensive documentation," says John, "this process will force us to be even more structured and better define people's job duties."

--An ISO consultant is helping D/C prepare for registration. "The countdown begins in May," says John. "We'll hammer out a timetable with our consultant, discuss registrars [the independent third parties who conduct the final audit] and set the wheels in motion." The entire process will take 16 to 24 months.
